Veganuary may be over but that doesn’t mean you should abandon the vegan meals that have graced your menu this January. With 25% of the population expected to be vegetarian or vegan by 2025 and flexitarians set to make up just under half the population (Sainsbury’s), there is growing demand for innovative plant-based dishes that are just as appealing as meat.
Deliveroo saw a 330% increase in orders of vegan dishes from 2017 to 2019 and has highlighted a growing trend towards ‘vegan-ish’ where customers opt for part-time vegan diets, with around half of everything they eat being plant-based. It’s estimated that around 1/3 of all Brits have either stopped or reduced their meat intake (The Guardian) proving there is a demand for vegan meals beyond just Veganuary.
Customers choose vegan meals for a range of reasons from environmental concerns to perceived health benefits. It’s important to have a variety of vegan options outside of Veganuary, offering both healthier meals like BBQ Jackfruit Buddha bowls, and indulgent dishes such as fully loaded vegan burgers.
However, there’s no reason why vegan and vegetarian dishes can’t be customised to appeal to other customers. With a few simple additions, originally meat-free dishes can sit in multiple places on your menu. Check out the serving suggestions below for savvy menu inspiration.
